New Russia

by Mary Holderness

Not entirely by the numbers travel writing, but close enough to it to lack much real engagement. The specific style and content of the account are quite important for approaching the text as history, but taken aesthetically and after a span of time it all blurs into an extraordinary sameness, not being particularly worse than the average, but after many other accounts failing to distinguish itself from them.
